The Brighton Dance Academy (BDA) is one of Melbourne’s prominent dance schools offering instruction and coaching in a wide variety of dance activities, for all ages.
The BDA has been operating continuously in the Bayside area since 1965 predominantly teaching dance to young people and also daytime ballet activity for adults.
We are privileged to present our highly trained and experienced instructors delivering quality classes in dance and musical theatre. We are particularly experienced in working with young people within our community. Students at BDA are challenged to achieve to the best of their ability.
We teach the approved syllabi of the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) for Classical Ballet and the Southern Federation of Dance (SFD) for Jazz. We prepare and enter students for the requisite qualifications and exams and have consistently achieved high results. The syllabi in these dance disciplines are devised to teach students appropriate skills for their age and physical development. In addition, each syllabus is carefully designed to not only increase the students’ technique but also teach them musicality and performance skills. BDA students attain new skills each year and progress through the syllabus levels.
Teachers invite a selected number of students to learn solos for competitions. Students are chosen to compete as soloists based on: their technique and performance ability; their dedication to dance; their attendance at more than one class per week; and their success in exams.
Master Classes and Workshops
Ballet and Jazz exam candidates are invited to attend
workshops and master classes in the lead up to their examinations. These workshops and master classes are taught by examiners and are an
excellent opportunity for students to further their skills in their
chosen dance style.
Each year BDA stages a professional performance in which
all students take part. The performance is held at the Melbourne Recital Centre which a state of the art facility in the heart of Melbourne. The Annual Concert is an excellent
way for all BDA students to display the skills they have acquired over
the course of the year.
